The chilled breath of winter has been twisting through these suburban hollows in the middle of the night, and in tow it carries a palette of brittle frost to paint intricate patterns of ice crystals and snow on the windshield of my car.

Winter is impatient like that. It always seems to be plotting an early arrival and furtively creeping across the boundary of the season and whispering songs of death to branches full of trembling leaves in the darkened shadows of the night.

For now, I am grateful that the warmth of the autumn sun is prevailing and keeping the shivery chill of winter at bay because Nate is really enjoying playing in the leaves.

One of the best things about having kids, I think, is watching them, in all of their unbridled joy and wonder, explore and discover the world in front of them.

Leaves included.

Beautiful pictures! Porgie loves leaves too. We went for a walk around the block last night, which took approximately 4 hours because she had to stop and look at every fallen leaf.

All we seem to get around here is pinestraw. Not quite the same thrill...Speaking of winter, last week there were a couple of days where the kids had to wear pants, but now we're back to clothing optional weather again!

My favorite part of winter and the kids is that their little cheeks turn red and have that wind-blown look to them. That probably means they're freezing and I should get them inside, but instead we just stay longer so I can look at their adorable faces!

Oh, and do you think I'm a total idiot b/c as I was looking at your pics I thought, "Hmmmm, Canadian neighborhoods and cars look just like ours!"?

oh, he's so cute...looks like he's having a great ol' time!

Zander is obsessed with running through all the leaves on our front lawn (which, i am convinced, is the ONLY reason we haven't raked them yet ! :) ), and Logan tries to eat them...ya, he just has to try everything once!
