BPA-laden Avent products refund
by Karla ° Tuesday, May 6, 2008
When it comes to discussion about politics, religion or the latest news about the hazards of Bisphenol A, I tend to hover along the sidelines, quietly listening, observing and soaking in this often frightening world around me. It’s not that I don’t want to have a voice on matters of importance; it’s just that there are so many more people who can speak on these subjects much more eloquently than I ever could.

That being said, there is something that I just have to share. Canadian retailer Zellers is offering a full refund in exchange for returning your BPA-laden Avent products.

I just returned my Avent ISIS breast pump and all of my bottle attachments and received $115 dollars in HBC store credit. That is seriously awesome considering I didn’t even buy my Avent baby products at that store.

I heard that Toys R Us is also offering a refund, but only at 50% of the most recent sales price, which totally isn't worth it when you consider all that extra toilet paper you can now stock up on at Zellers.

I know. Toys R Us seems to be all over the map. I returned my Dr Brown's bottles and got $107 in store credit. Now it's to decide what cool toys to buy.

Karla, i must live on a different planet, because i didn't hear about that one. Avent is all i ever used with all my kids, Thankfully Callum doesn't need his bottle anymore. Was this just in Canada? I live in Scotland.
You got a good refund!

I'm going to mail you all of my Avent bottles. Somebody should reap the benefit of all this BPA stuff...

My friend took bottles and a sterilizer back to Zellers today and got $189 in HBC gift cards. Apparently, though they are only doing this until this Friday.

Too bad I have none of this stuff!

It is ashame that mothers have to even worry about this stuff. I packed all my Dr. Brown bottles and started looking for the glass ones which is hard to find. People are buying them up like crazy. Now Dr. Brown is selling the BPA free plastic bottles and people are buying them up like crazy. A pregnant woman grabbed the last two right before I had a chance to even reach over for them. (Which made me mad. My baby was already born. She could have let me have one of the sets. :) Of course I have not heard anything here in New Orleans about Babies R Us giving refunds. But if that is the case, I am glad that I did not throw them away. Thanks for the heads up concerning that.

Thanks a million for sharing this Karla, I just returned from Zellers with a 74.00 credit for my Avent ISIS breast pump and microwave sterlizer (both came with bottles too). Zellers took everything back. Good on HBC!

Oh man Jessica, I can't even begin to tell you how fast the gears started turning in my head at the idea of everyone outside of Canada mailing us their Avent gear and then sharing the profits. Unfortunately, Amanda's right, the return without a receit of packaging is only good until this Friday.

Oops, forgot to mention, yes, this refund so far only applies in Canada.

Damn...well hopefully we will follow Canada's lead on the return.

WOW! Thanks for letting me know about this!

I was there returning my bottles this week and the complete refund is only until May 9th (Friday). After that they will need a receipt. Thanks for the heads up though, otherwise I would have missed out :)

Having the same problem here in the US. And none of our grocery store chains carry the BPA-free cups, either.

BPA, lead, DHA, vax, flame-retardant pj's, DEA, stainless steel pots... You have to wonder what's next. I was just at Babies R Us this week trying to find BPA-free sippy cups. They only carried the bottles by Nuby. The Born Free website is taking orders for the sippy cups, but they say there's no guarantee that you'll get the color you want (sorry, I don't want to take the chance and wind up with pink for my son). I have to drive a hour away to the nearest Whole Foods store to pick up Born Free. *vent*

Here's just a few of the links I found that list/compare BPA-free items, not just cups and bottles:

Hey, the links I posted above didn't show up in their entirety. Well, I'm sure you can navigate to the info after typing in the domain.

Hello everyone, I went to Babies R Us, they are not taking the bottles anymore and advised me to contact Avent directly at 1-800-542-8368. When I called Avent, they advised me that they never had a policy to accept any of their products and if Babies R Us was doing that, it was their own voluntary choice and no recalls had been placed on them by the Canadian Govt.

I've used Avent bottles for my child. But Avent wasn't on a recall until I took her off the bottle. Can I still get a refund? I have a 2 month old and don't want to use the bottle or the breast pump.
