Real Moms
by Karla ° Tuesday, March 20, 2007
Amanda tagged me with a Real Moms meme. Her take on real moms was heartwarming, clever and creative and I when I stopped to think about what makes me a real mom, it really hit me. I am a REAL MOM. I am no longer part of the invisible mom club where I have earned the title of mom by giving birth to a baby that is no longer with me.

I’m still trying to find my way in this whole being a mom thing and I had to think really hard about what being a real mom means, and what I do for Nate that is special. And then my brain caught on fire from all that thinking, so I have settled on nose picking.

When Nate was all stuffy and nasally with his cold and I couldn’t get his snot suction doodad to work and fishing for boggers with a Kleenex just wasn’t cutting it, the nail of my pinky finger worked swimmingly swell.

Judging by how ambitious his thumb sucking has become lately though, he isn’t far off from figuring out how to do it all by himself.

I'm not sure if I should be proud of his developing dexterity, or grossed out, or an amused mix of both.

Oh Karla, your nate is just so cute, hope you had a good weekend at mcgramma & mcgrampa, will be talking with your mom soon and find out all about it. Glad that things are going so well for you. Barb Vander Kooij

Oh yeah, nose picking definitely fits in the real mom category. (For a second there, I thought you were going to say you sucked it out, and then I was about to be really grossed out.)

This is only the beginning of "gross" my friend! :)

That's hilarious! I do the same thing! We call it my "Boogie Nail". When Zander was still really young, I didn't want to tell anyone. Now having two boys, I know it's just a way of life as a mom to have a Boogie Nail!

Good job being a Real Mom!

Oh he is soooo cute! He looks so much like you in the first picture! And I do the pinky finger nail boogie thing with Evan too.

those are my favorite pictures so far. Brandon learned to put his finger in his nose but as far as picking it goes he hasn't grasped that, so now when he has boogers, he puts his fingers in his nose till i notice and then put my fingers in his nose. And, what makes you a real mom, is the unmeasurable amount that you love your son!

And, it is not to late for you to impose a back tax: IE anyone who didn't bring you chocolate during your pregnancy now owes you 7.375% more chocolate then before

Those eyes!! Nate is so sweet!

Yeah I used to pick noses, Ethan does it all by himslef now. I have been finding boogies on my new couch slipcovers, since he has a really yucky nose right now. Good thing for the washer!!

I agree, it only gets better!!LOL.

You are for sure a REAL momma!

What a doll he is..and I love the previous post with the doggie too - how adorable!!!

He is so adorable! I love how he prefers his thumb even though he's holding onto his pacifier!

That boy found his thumb! You should be beaming with pride!

I love when Cole finds his. Most of the time he just smacks himself in the face for a while and then gives up. However, there are those few instances when he actually does, and you can just see the joy on his face as he shoves that little tiny thumb up into his mouth as far as it will go!

When Cole's nose gets stuffy, I use Q-tips. I tried my pinky nail, but I always seem to have just cut it short right before he gets all boogery!

PS-Could Nate get any cuter? I think not!

Oooooh. Those pictures are so cute!

And yeah. I picked my kids noses too. But I stopped when they started doing it themselves.

Real moms aren't afraid of snot! Or puke, poop, and pee.

I became a real mom the day I picked my daughter's nose, then decided that I didn't want to get up to take care of it, so I put it back!

Nate is adorable. Adorable. ADORABLE! How do you not just sit and stare at him all day long?

Welcome to "real" motherhood!
Looks like everything is as normally "gross" as usual.

And of course, Nate is just adorable. :)
